So Much for the Trump-Putin Conspiracy

Moscow warned on Monday there would be “negative consequences” if US President Donald Trump fails to uphold the landmark Iran nuclear deal negotiated by his predecessor.

Trump is a fierce critic of the 2015 accord, which he has called “the worst deal ever”, and US officials say he intends to tell Congress next week that Tehran is not honouring its side of the bargain.

“Obviously if one country leaves the deal, especially such a key country as the US, then that will have negative consequences,” Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman said.

“We can only try to predict the nature of these consequences, which we are doing now,” Dmitry Peskov told journalists.

So let me get this straight. President Donald Trump’s election last November is because of a Trump-Putin conspiracy.

Donald Trump ran on the premise that he would end the Iran deal if elected. Yet Putin loves Iran and the Iran deal whereby the United States gives away the store completely and without qualifications to totalitarian, terrorizing and — yes — Islamic Iran.

Are we to believe that Vladimir Putin did not care about Trump’s position back in 2015 and 2016? If not, then why would he conspire to elect Donald Trump? If appeasing Iran is Putin’s goal, then Hillary Clinton would have been his man.

The Democratic/progressive/leftist conspiracy theories make no sense, not even on their own terms.

What’s really going on here? It appears that Putin is practically threatening war against the United States if it fails to defend itself by withdrawing from a perfectly awful and unlawful “treaty” in which the United States literally pays one of its enemies to build nuclear weapons. It’s unlikely that Russia would find it in its own interest or even feasible to wage a war against the United States for withdrawing from the Iran treaty.

The untenable conspiracy theory launched by elite media and government cronies is not the crazy part here. The crazy part is that a majority of Americans – not once, but twice – elected to the office of the presidency a man who promised to make it easier for enemies like Iran to destroy us, and who made it clear in both his campaigns he would do that.

If Vladimir Putin is on the side of the Iran deal, he’s no more a friend of the United States than Barack Obama was. The absurd irony in all this is that Putin and Obama were, and are, on the same side. And it’s not America’s side.
