Worry About Worry?

Obsessive anxiety comes from worrying about your anxiety. If you stop trying to fight the anxiety, it will eventually go away. Big caveat here: It won’t go away immediately. So when you tell yourself, ‘Stop fighting it, don’t worry, the fear will go away on its own,’ it won’t go away right away. It will go away when it’s damn good and ready, is one way of putting it. You’re going to have to accept it. You can actually live with the worry just fine. Of course, it would be much better not to have the worry. But the worry is going to go away. It’s not a question of if—but when. And you don’t know the answer to when, but the sooner you stop worrying about that part, the sooner it will go away.
