How well have we kept it?
A republic? No borders. Well, borders for the moment — but we know the moment President Trump leaves office, that’s over. Trump was the only one willing to take the bullets for his policies that all future Republicans will endure, as well. Will Marco Rubio or J.D. Vance really be up to that job? Assuming a Democrat doesn’t get in next time?
A republic? Unlimited freebies for everyone entering — who don’t have to work — paid for by people already here — who must work (or pay higher prices through government inflation of the currency) to pay for it all.
A republic? Blame applied to everyone who works and thinks for the sake of those unable or unwilling to work or think. They — the elites who write the textbooks — say it’s “white supremacy,” which means whites as a group oppressing nonwhites as a group. But the only nonwhites who concern the elites are those who will not work or think. The moment a black or brown person steps up and says, “I cherish freedom. Freedom requires self-responsibility,” is the moment the elites stop caring about black or brown persons.
Imagine if a “transgender” got up and said, “Leave me alone. That’s all I ask. Respect my right to do with my body, my psyche and my mental health what I choose to do with it. I demand nothing else. I will deal with the consequences.” The moment any “transgender” said this, would be the moment transgenders would suddenly no longer be cool. Ditto for gays and lesbians.
The war isn’t against this or that racial or demographic group; the war is against individualism, and all that it implies.
Individualism implies the right to make your own choices; but it also implies the responsibility to accept the consequences of your own choices, and not to force others to pick up the tab for your own errors or negligence.
We used to call the massive transfer of wealth the welfare state. That was so we didn’t have to say socialism, because socialism wasn’t always an acceptable term in America. The “welfare” state has now morphed into an all-out, global totalitarian state. The totalitarian state means those who CAN and WILL produce must all be sacrificed for those who CANNOT or WILL NOT produce anything.
This is what America’s seething-at-the-surface civil war is really all about. It has nothing to do with race, or class, or Party affiliation. As I said, members of the officially preferred classes — brown, black, gay, illegal aliens, transgender — suddenly have ZERO standing the moment they take the side of the individualists or the self-responsible. DEI is a fraud and a scam — to elevate the unwilling and least capable and to discourage if not outright enslave the capable and self-responsible. They say it’s about racial justice, but it’s really about protecting the least capable so society can flounder and the career politicians and bureaucrats can take over absolutely everything (instead of mostly everything, as we have now.)
I find it hilarious, in a dark kind of way, to observe millions and millions of Americans pouring out into mass crowds to celebrate the 4th of July. Many of them voted for Kamala, and will be voting for Bernie Sanders or AOC if such are served up in the next election — and happily so. They don’t care if it’s a contradiction to celebrate individualism, individual rights, Thomas Jefferson’s ideas (have they even read Jefferson?) and the validity of private property while simultaneously electing open Communist, socialist, psycho-woke, intolerant, modern day puritanical control freak totalitarians into office. Democracy, you say? Once totalitarians take office, they never leave office — not without a whole lot of shooting and bloodshed.
I’m unsure who’s doing more damage: The people who applaud, tolerate or support the growing totalitarianism in our country; or the equally foolish people (often conservatives, even MAGA types) who say things like, “It can’t happen here. God won’t let it. Trump won’t let it. Pray, and all will be well.”
But it’s happening all around you. Self-delusion, minimization and denial are not a pathway to victory. Facts are facts, and facts can neither be wished nor prayed away.
And despite the laudatory, almost lone-wolf efforts of President Trump — who truly walks the talk — the millions of pampered, moronic and authentically clueless people who have no concern about freedom and what Independence Day actually mean continue to live under the chokehold of their own ignorance.
Listen to the people who lived in places like Venezuela — a fairly prosperous, somewhat capitalist semi-free country before the Communists took over. Or study the accounts of the Maoist revolution in China, the first woke campaign which preceded the imposition of Communism in China. The atmosphere here in America today sounds and feels a whole lot like what they describe.
Note that it’s always and only conservatives and other nonleftists (moderates, libertarians, independents, anyone not a Democrat) who are afraid; never the leftists. Leftists face no concern about losing business, losing their free speech, or their right to their private property. They scream about worries, but what they’re really saying is they might lose the control they already have over other people — and that’s what makes leftists truly insane. They must control other people.
President Trump is the most powerful man in the world, supposedly; but his supporters are the ones being threatened and even murdered (remember Charlie Kirk) on a regular basis. That tells you who’s really in control.
And if it’s like this under President Trump, what will it be like under some milquetoast Republican (i.e., almost any Republican) or (perish the thought) a radicalized Democrat (i.e., any Democrat), in charge of the military, the currency and all of the alphabet soup federal agencies who run nearly everything in this country?
Happy 4th. Happy 250th, America. But not because of what America’s becoming in the present. Happy 4th because of what might and should be. For clarification of what I mean, read (perhaps for the first time) the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. You won’t find socialism or free health care or free college tuition in those documents. You won’t find guaranteed outcomes and government-mandated happiness. You won’t find a promise of “affordability.” You won’t find “social and racial justice.” You’ll simply find the rights of the individual, and the duty of a government to protect those individual (including property) rights. That’s it. And that’s everything.
The answer is simple. It’s called freedom. The answer was there — all along. Or at least after 7/4/1776, the date we’re celebrating. The problem? Millions don’t care, and millions more don’t want freedom. Many do. But too many don’t. And for a free society … it’s unsustainable. The problem isn’t the government. The problem is us — most of us. That’s what needs to change … even more than who runs the government.
