The Case for Term Limits

Lindsay Graham–he’s my U.S. Senator and I will be voting against him in today’s GOP Primary in South Carolina. I don’t think much of his opponent, who will not win, but sometimes a protest vote is the best option. In his most recent term, Graham had a 73 percent limited government rating. This beats the 0 percent of literally any Democrat holding office since the radicalization of their Party. But Graham’s 73 percent is lower than the 79 percent average for his fellow Republicans, and in deep red South Carolina it’s disgraceful. In 6 years, his score will be lower, and in 18 years he’ll be a Communist Democrat like Mitch McConnell.

What can I say? There are no term limits. And only the good die young. These Senators (both parties) go on and on and on. And their power approaches the unlimited and unaccountable. And they all become billionaires. None of this is what America’s founders had in mind. Someday, when a better culture and (in all honesty) a better generation of Americans come along, humanity will start over. In the meantime, we get Lindsay Graham.

In South Carolina, the GOP Primary today IS the governor’s race. My vote is for Nancy Mace. In Congress (she’s my representative), she actually goes out on a limb — time and time again — to take the positions many of us are thinking and a few of us are also saying. It’s not difficult to imagine how she made it through the Citadel. Mace will make a great Governor, although she will be a loss for Congress. Fighters like her don’t come along very often.

I am a therapist, and people ask me: “Is Donald Trump a narcissist?” I throw it back by asking, “Isn’t every established politician in D.C. a narcissist? Hillary Clinton, Obama, Biden, all of the Senate — both parties, all of them?” How would it be news if Donald Trump were a narcissist? He’d be in good company. But Donald Trump loves the country. He’s not in it for the money. He has lost money. He’s not in it for the power — unless you consider getting slandered, arrested and repeatedly shot at to be power. None of the establishment RINOs or Democrats have ever paid any price for, nor experienced any serious discomfort, for the unaccountable and inexplicable privilege we grant them over and over again. Donald Trump’s a narcissist? Give me a break, you fools!
