Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick says he has traded California for Texas, joining a growing list of billionaires abandoning the state as lefty lawmakers push for a one-off tax their wealth.
Appearing on TPBN to discuss his robotics startup Atoms, Kalanick told hosts John Coogan and Jordi Hays he relocated to Austin on December 18.
California lawmakers and activists are currently pushing a proposed 2026 Billionaire Tax Act, which could appear on the state’s November 2026 ballot. The measure would impose a one-time 5% tax on fortunes exceeding $1 billion and would apply to people who were California residents as of January 1, 2026.
Sigh…Leftists (Uber’s founder is the latest) leave blue states to escape huge taxes and insane, contradictory regulations. They move to places like Denver, Colorado, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Austin, Texas, where they vote for even HIGHER taxes and MORE INSANE regulations.
WHAT IN THE THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE? They possess the presence of mind and self-respect to leave places like California who openly seek to decimate them. Why do they leave these places and ask their new mayors and governors to, “Please, please, give it to me hard — more than my last victimizer, please, please, sir?”
Psychopathology and sinister inner conflicts are in play here…perhaps worse than any enemy we face on the outside. The battle for humanity, liberty and freedom may be more psychological than anything.
