Do You Owe Manners to People Who Seek Your Destruction?

Fox News says some conservatives are praising Barron Trump for shaking Joe Biden’s hand at the Inauguration. Seriously? My intention isn’t to criticize young Barron Trump. He has been through things he has never asked for. But should a mature adult shake hands with an adversary? It depends. Is your adversary someone you play against in chess, football or a video game? A game where you play by the agreed upon rules and both the winner and loser are honorable? Of course. You shake hands.

But when your adversary tries to ruin your life, imprison your father for political non-crimes, and possibly kill your father (even through deliberate negligence with the Secret Service), should you encourage your child to shake his hand? Not in a million years. People who applaud such a thing are fools (Trump supporters or not), and their self-effacing attitude ensures we will (one final time) snatch defeat out of the hands of victory.

In short: There’s a massive moral distinction between an honorable adversary and someone who’s trying to kill you. Good people, I beg you: Please learn the distinction.
