A Dame of Comedy

Barry Humphries was a scream. I saw several of his shows on Broadway and watched all of his television specials from the 1980s and 90s. By pure chance, I even had the opportunity to talk with him for about 20 minutes in Shubert alley, once after one of his performances. His demeanor and appearance were wildly different from that of Dame Edna — he was soft-spoken and reminded me a lot of a college professor.

When Humphries performed, I laughed like I did at Lucille Ball’s comedy. I have no greater compliment! R.I.P.
