The Death of the American City

I used to love cities–New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, DC. No more. Now I am rural all the way. In a civilization as barbaric as ours has become intellectually, it was only a matter of time before the cities would turn into the rotten, uninhabitable nightmares they have become. I am delighted to have experienced the great cities of our time before their fall. Leave these woke, chaotic slums to the people who richly deserve them. Let the police abandon them. Go ahead; give them what they want, and what the ignorant fools repeatedly vote for. Leave it to the bright and good people to start over, remembering all we once had — and all that’s still possible.
