“It’s too soon to reopen.”
“How do you know that?”
“Because the virus will just come back.”
“But that’s not happening in places where reopening has started — Florida, Georgia, South Carolina. Beaches are open and things are about the same, if not better, in those places.”
“That’s how it is now. But soon it will be different.”
“How do you know that?”
“I heard it on the news.”
“So you’re frightened.”
“Yes. I’m frightened. And I hate being cooped up. I don’t want to stay inside, either. But we all must sacrifice.”
“So you’ll stay inside. If you’re right, and the virus comes back, you’ll be safe. You will sacrifice, and that will make you safe. Because you don’t plan on leaving the house, right? Nobody can make you go outside. So you’ll be safe.”
Silence.
