A Hill-HarrisX poll conducted in late-June asked voters, “Should the descendants of slaves be paid reparations to make up for the harms caused by slavery or have these harms been adequately compensated?”
56% of respondents said “No,” 20% said “Yes,” and 24% said they were unsure.
For what it’s worth, that’s what a poll says.
How can it even be a QUESTION?
The idea of people who DID NOT do anything wrong being held accountable for the actions of people who DID do something wrong is a horrifying, blatant example of injustice.
What if I sued you for the actions of a person you don’t even know? And my reason for suing you is that you’re of the same race as the person guilty of the wrongdoing? Or because you’re related, by blood, to that person? Even if you’re a leftist Democrat, you’d be outraged into speechlessness, and with good reason.
The idea of people who did NOT do anything wrong being forced to atone for the sins of others because of their race — and their race alone — is open RACISM. It’s no less racist than the Nazis, the KKK, or anyone else.
I can’t believe I live in a time and place where one of the two major political movements in the United States actually stands for such inconceivable injustice and racism. And in Orwellian mockery, they brand themselves “progressive”. For such a monstrous idea to get so far suggests we are in very big trouble, maybe more than we realize.
If this poll is accurate, and 44% of the country actually thinks a race-based “reparations” policy is good or possibly worth considering, then how long before we are totally gone, as a society?
The unearned guilt of people is astonishing. The ignorance, the anti-intellectual mentality, anti-common sense mindset and just plain stupidity overtaking the minds of millions is staggering. I didn’t realize psychological neurosis and irrationality had become this widespread, but they are.
What do “reparations” do to the people such a policy is intended to help? The government goes up to black people and says, “You are black. Because you are black, we’re going to give you more money”. What if the black person is rich, or well off? And if the black person is poor, how will this pittance allow him or her to escape poverty?
“I am giving you money because of your race”. For that reason — and for no other reason. What kind of psychological impact do you expect this to have on black individuals? I would hate it. I would be insulted. I would say, “Why are you rewarding me for something I had no control over? And why are you doing it because people of my same race were slaves, centuries ago? What does that have to do with ME?”
If you care about the plight of black people stuck in the slums of inner cities, then you’d be a champion of free markets, tax cuts, massive deregulation and unhampered capitalism (as opposed to the phony crony kind). Yet the very people screaming for reparations are the same ones calling for all-out socialism. If not Communism.
It’s insane. “Reparations” because of your race is the stuff of National Socialism, fascism and Communism. It’s the business of dictatorships. It has NO place in a remotely free society, not even as a point of debate. In America, given our history and what our country accomplished with its unprecedented liberty, it’s sickening and disgraceful.
For this reason alone, the Democrats — who now openly support so-called reparations, as a party — should lose in a 50 state massive landslide. They should lose Congress too. If they don’t lose big, for this reason alone, then America is in trouble.
