It took me long enough, but I finally watched Lincoln (from 2012). Excellent film. Nobody knows what Lincoln was really like, but I always imagined him just as Daniel Day-Lewis portrayed him.
My favorite thing about the movie was its central focus on the first few months of 1865, as the Civil War ended, and the passage of the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery.
This was Lincoln’s greatest and most enduring accomplishment.
Remember that Lincoln was the first Republican President. Democrats did everything they could to obstruct the pursuit of justice as defined by our original Bill of Rights. Lincoln did not blink.
How little Democrats have changed!
