The Thing About Oprah for President …

Oprah for President?

Lefties are swooning with excitement as they look to sample one another’s reactions. So far, so good.

Here’s the thing about Oprah for President.

The woman made her career on two things. One: entrepreneurship. She created a whole new niche and made billions for it. Whatever you think of her, she was really good at what she did. She’s a self-made woman, the personification of capitalism as she prepares to lead the party committed to capitalism’s complete demise.

Two, she peddled New Age psychology and philosophy. I’m not a fan. But the basic thrust of the New Age approach is your life is your own, be all you can be and be at one with the universe for the sake of your own individual self-fulfillment.

So Oprah built her career on two things. One, entrepreneurship and two, individualistic self-fulfillment, albeit the New Age quasi mystical version. How are we to square these two things with her becoming the standard bearer of the Democratic Party, the party of “hand over your money”, regulatory control freakism and the motto, “You Didn’t Build That”?

It should be really interesting. Running against Donald Trump will not be the only part of the show.

Yet I realize Democrats have no problem with hypocrisy, rationalization and brazen disregard for their own claimed principles when it comes to themselves in any other matters. So why should it be any different when it comes to Oprah?

Also, a lot of people don’t like Oprah. I have known totally liberal Democrats who say they don’t like Oprah because she’s “smug”. Her smugness will rub a lot of people the wrong way, particularly when she has to come out for political positions.

Donald Trump wrote numerous books on his political positions before ever becoming a candidate. Watch what happens when Oprah feels compelled to do the same. Deep down, these fawning and swooning Democrats have to know that it won’t be a walk to the White House for Oprah. She will have to fight her way there in a fashion she never encountered when fawning over celebrities like Madonna and peddling feel-good psychology.

Oh, and by the way: Am I the only one who doesn’t assume Hillary Clinton has totally given up? Oprah vs. Hillary. Now there’s a fight I’d like to see.
