I was elected not to take power, but to give power to the people, where it belongs.
If the righteous men do not confront the wicked few, then evil will triumph.
Oppressive regimes cannot endure forever.
The problem in Venezuela is not that socialism has been poorly implemented, but that socialism has been faithfully implemented.
My least favorite line:
For the diverse nations of the world, this [the U.N.] is our hope…We are defined not by ideology, but outcomes.
Ideology determines outcomes. The ideology of America’s founders determined the greatest civilization and social system in human history. The ideology of Adolf Hitler and the ideology of Karl Marx led to very different outcomes. You cannot separate ideology from outcome!
On the whole, an excellent and refreshing speech. After 8 years of a President openly on the side of our enemies, in words and deed, this is a breath of fresh air.
As for his comments on the rebounding economy, nothing but laissez-faire, unhampered economic freedom will save us. Trump does not stand for that, but he does not stand for unhampered socialism either, as the Democrats and socialists now do. (Example: more Democrats coming out in favor of single payer Communist medicine.)
President Trump seems to understand that socialism is bad, evidenced by his comments about the inherent agony and irrationality of socialism in Venezuela and elsewhere. Yes, the bar is terribly low, and thanks to the misery brought on by 8 years of Obama, there is nowhere to go but up. Trump may buy us time, although his refusal thus far to address spending and the debt is a bad thing.
President Hillary Clinton would have been the certain end of everything, going down without a fight. At least with President Trump, we have a fighting chance.
When the President of the U.S. is greeted with tepid applause and hostile glares from the professional parasites and glorified thugs that largely make up the U.N., then you know we’re on the right track.
