Good People With Guns Save Us From Bad People With Guns

A Tennessee homeowner held two escaped inmates wanted in the killing of two prison guards at gunpoint Thursday until authorities arrived and made the arrests. Tennessee Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Bill Miller said late Thursday that the homeowner caught Donnie Rowe and Ricky Dubose trying to steal his vehicle. Miller says the escaped Georgia inmates had crashed a car while being chased by law enforcement and fled on foot into woods along Interstate 24 near the rural community of Christiana…Miller says something alerted the homeowner that people were outside his home and he saw the men trying to steal his vehicle. The trooper says the homeowner held the two at gunpoint with a neighbor he called until the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department could get there to arrest them.

This story of the heroic gun owner in Tennessee made me think of the condescending attitude displayed by people who favor gun control. “Why would anyone want to own a gun?” they sniff. “Why on earth do YOU own a gun?” they sneer.

This is exactly why people should have a right to own a gun. It’s not the most fundamental reason, of course. The most fundamental reason is that you have a moral and therefore political right to protect yourself. But a secondary benefit is that people like this Tennessee homeowner will take the opportunity to save others’ lives, as well. Think of the additional people who likely would have died if this Tennesse resident had not been permitted to own a gun.

Anti-gun zealots are laden with the moral superiority and the desire to intimidate those who disagree with their idiocy. It goes along with anyone who holds wrong positions of any kind. They have to come across this way to shut you up, because how else are they to win the argument?

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to grasp that a gun in the hands of a good person is as much a virtue as a gun in the hands of a bad person is a vice. Regardless of the legal status of guns, guns will always end up in the hands of bad people. Gun confiscation will not change that, and it never will. However, so long as guns are legal, there’s always a possibility that if you end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, at least one of the people at the scene (assuming it’s not yourself) will be armed and ready to do what it takes to save lives — including your own.

The media will not make anything of this story, of course. The airheaded anti-gun Democrats that overwhelmingly dominate the media are too busy quietly applauding the deranged dirtbag who opened fire on Republican congressmen the other day, while using that tragedy as an excuse to claim that taking guns away from good guys will somehow protect us from the bad ones.
