Today’s dictators in waiting — along with their media and academic elites — have absorbed this lesson well.
In a free country with a First Amendment, in order to impose a dictatorship, you must work slowly, patiently. You must first make the people ignorant, by taking over their schools. Then you make the people indifferent by burying the truth until it’s yesterday’s news.
That’s why the statists and totalitarians, even while suffering the occasional setback, keep coming back to do more and more damage to our once free, vibrant and reasonable society. Most of us keep letting them because we don’t care. At least not enough.
