We’re told that socialism is morally justified — so long as it’s “democratic.” This means that anything a socialist government does is justified — so long as a majority voted for it. Presumably, a majority would never vote for anything evil, since the majority is automatically and always right in a “democracy.”
If these unstated but absolutely accepted assumptions are true, then where might a socialist government NOT act? Even if it has majority consent? Censorship, political prison camps for the “good of the economy?”
A socialist will reply, “There are just certain basic human rights no socialist government may violate.” But based on what principle? The rights of the individual over the majority? If that’s the case, then why does the individual enjoy rights over the majority with SOME matters — sexual relations, smoking pot — while having NO rights whatsoever over other matters — such as owning a gun, his privately owned property, 100 percent of his savings or earnings? No answer is given. This is why the opponent of socialism is greeted with insults, hostility and even threats of violence.
Socialism is morally wrong and logically unsustainable. On top of that, it leads to nothing but economic decline, stagnation and impoverishment for all but a politically connected few.
