NATO, Please Go Quietly Into the Night [My Latest Newsmax]

They turn their noses up at the American system and its traditions, while happily exploiting all the good that very system has done for them.

Stepping away from the rosy narratives of some foreign policy magazines, reality comes quickly into view, that the United States has never truly enjoyed solid relationships with most of those so-called allies. Thus, words have not resulted in meritorious actions.

That has largely been an illusion permitted only to the elites who make their careers, if not in foreign policy periodicals, profiting from the self-congratulatory diplomatic, globalist echo chambers of Washington, D.C.

Exceptions have been rare. Great Britain, particularly under Winston Churchill (during World War II) and Margaret Thatcher (at the climax of the Cold War) stand out as notable exceptions.

So does Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the lone voice for freedom and rationality in the Mideast today.

These are the kind of people who genuinely love what America stands for and are proud (and grateful) to stand side-by-side with us in times of crises.

Beyond these laudable exceptions, American alliances and friendships with foreign nations leave a lot to be desired.

I question why we should give money unconditionally to people who constantly pester and complain about the U.S. – the very nation that provides all the loot, and all the moral and military support to these feckless “friends”…
