NATO was always a ridiculous idea on the face of it.
NATO is a promise by the U.S. always to be friends with European nations, regardless of how the governments of those nations treat us. Who does this? “Even if you treat me badly, I will still be your friend, and risk my life to defend you.” Again, who does this?
And, of course, being friends with European governments means always giving them lots of money — via direct subsidies, or indirectly by handling their defense for them. Ridiculous. The U.S. always has more money than European nations, because Europeans tax and regulate their citizens much more than Americans.
It’s unfair. It’s a recipe for exploitation of America by Europe, of taking advantage of our generosity and abandoning us one of the few times we need their help. Precisely what happened.
To hell with NATO. Let’s put it to bed. Europeans should be handled case by case, government by government; we should only be friends when they deserve it. Friendship is a two-way street.
