“I may disagree with everything you say. But I would never suppress your right to say it.”
This attitude is absolutely dead. Leftists in particular are explicit about it. They no longer even pay lip service to free speech. They weaponize the concept “hate speech” to shut down anything they don’t care to hear.
I do not trust even the Supreme Court to uphold free speech, unless it’s convenient for the Uniparty. One day more of us will wake up to the fact that on our watch, freedom of speech passed quietly in the night. Only the abstraction remains.
Speaking of intolerance and one-Party government control of everything …
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) spoke to a crowd at All Saints Church on the east side of Syracuse, New York, on September 28, warning them that “people” and “cynics” want to turn Democrats against their “immigrant” and “trans brothers and sisters.”
It seems that Ayn Rand, when she published “Atlas Shrugged” back in the 1950s, anticipated someone like AOC using religion as an excuse to impose a command-and-control economy in America:
“Every dictator is a mystic, and every mystic is a potential dictator. A mystic craves obedience from men, not their agreement. He wants them to surrender their consciousness to his assertions, his edicts, his wishes, his whims—as his consciousness is surrendered to theirs. He wants to deal with men by means of faith and force—he finds no satisfaction in their consent if he must earn it by means of facts and reason.
Reason is the enemy he dreads and, simultaneously, considers precarious; reason, to him, is a means of deception; he feels that men possess some power more potent than reason—and only their causeless belief or their forced obedience can give him a sense of security, a proof that he has gained control of the mystic endowment he lacked. His lust is to command, not to convince: conviction requires an act of independence and rests on the absolute of an objective reality. What he seeks is power over reality and over men’s means of perceiving it, their mind, the power to interpose his will between existence and consciousness, as if, by agreeing to fake the reality he orders them to fake, men would, in fact, create it.” (Ayn Rand, “Atlas Shrugged”)
Does it seem to you like everything and everyone — at least culturally speaking — has gone crazy?
Tucker Carlson says the U.S. was wrong to oppose Hitler. Feminists, gays, and trannies defend Muslims, a movement dedicated to throwing them off buildings and/or beheading them. Young people clamor for COMMUNISM as the key to future prosperity. Journalists with the blessings of a First Amendment engage voluntarily in censorship and propaganda. The Pope is a Communist. CEOs of America’s biggest corporations support AOC, Sanders and other advocates of 90 percent tax rates. Environmentalist high priests who wouldn’t last five minutes without their ac, gigantic jets, lattes and sushi self-righteously demand the elimination of carbon energy and a return to the horse and buggy. A mother strangles her three children and 11 of 12 jury members claim she’s the victim.
The world is off its axis, metaphorically if not literally. Yesterday’s dystopian fiction has nothing on the upside down, intellectually and morally inverted world of 2026.
