Lovely, wholesome young men, aren’t they? “Just being kids,” say the most torpid among us. Whenever these things happen, everyone is blamed but the shooters. Usually, the system responds by taking guns away from the people who didn’t shoot anyone, and rewarding those who did the shooting by giving them light sentences. And we wonder why civilization is falling apart? And why violent felons are gaining the upper hand everywhere?
I am not an anarchist. I believe in a limited government to punish and imprison violent felons, and also prosecute fraud or breach of legal contracts, via due process. However, what happens when the existing government stops doing these things? What happens when it not only stops doing these things, but actively supports and enables the violent and fraudulent felons? What happens when the government itself becomes the biggest criminal of all? Doesn’t such a government — transformed into legalized mobsters — lose all legitimacy and sustainability?
