I am flabbergasted that President Trump selected Pam Evette as his choice for South Carolina’s next governor. Normally, he can smell a phony a thousand miles away. Evette’s like a Bush. She says all the right things, but doesn’t do a thing, and apparently never has in her lackluster career. She takes no risks, stakes no difficult positions. Not ever. She copies the positions of her best opponents, such as Nancy Mace. Evette is low energy, and lacks passion, which usually means you lack principle. Mace has gone out on a limb to support ending the state income tax, ending the property tax for seniors, taking the badge away from sheriffs who won’t work with ICE, actually using the death penalty against violent felons, and many other things about which Evette says nothing (at least not until an authentic conservative like Mace or Ralph Norman does). As a resident of Charleston County, I am delighted Mace exposed the woke sanctuary sheriff we had in office and drove her out in 2024.
In a crowded field in a deep red state where the Republican primary IS the race for Governor, President Trump chose the candidate most likely to let us down. I don’t understand it. Well, I kind of do. In spring 2020, President Trump trusted Anthony Fauci on the need to lock down and mask the country until election day. Until Trump saw his error and reversed course. It’s a similar kind of error this time. I hope South Carolina goes for a real MAGA candidate, because President Trump really got this one WRONG.
