I am old enough to remember the failed attempt to rescue American hostages from Iran in April 1980, under President Jimmy Carter. After the heroic and inspiring rescue of downed American fighter pilots in Iran this weekend, one has to pause at what a difference 46 years can make. The awful Carter debacle sealed his crushing defeat for reelection. It was an embarrassment and humiliation for the whole country, not just for Republicans.
Today, Democrats cheer whenever America suffers a defeat and threaten to imprison President Trump, his Vice President, his Secretary of War and his Secretary of State as soon as they, the Democrats, regain power. They consider victory over Iran, if it happens, an impeachable offense. Imagine that! In 1980, nobody would ever have predicted such a thing, and most thought the country was in pretty deep trouble back then. Today, the breathtakingly ignorant twits who claim Trump has divided America evade the fact that we’re only divided because everyone strongly on the Democratic side is rooting for our enemies and our nation’s destruction.
