The libertarian Cato Institute is now weaponizing Ayn Rand to argue against the American attack on Iran. Ayn Rand was not a pacifist. She did not oppose war as a retaliatory measure against parties initiating the use of force, or where there was credible reason to believe they would soon use force. Iran has attacked Americans relentlessly for 47 years. Rand believed in a strong government and military for the use of strictly limited powers — defensive use of force being the primary reason. I urge all conscientious thinkers to go straight to the source and read anything or everything this brilliant woman wrote. At the same time, dismiss or ignore the losers making a living off the false representations of her positions applied to today’s events. The Ayn Rand Institute and Cato Institute are precisely the kind of parasitical moochers of spirit she warned against in her endlessly insightful works. They don’t really matter; just tune them out.
