Some good people have asked for my take on the Constitutional and moral basis for Trump’s actions against Maduro, from a limited government point-of-view. For example, might Trump force us into war? My reply is as follows: I am against the draft and believe any military fighting should be voluntary. I believe the President can act without Congress in military matters and I believe the Constitution leaves plenty of room for it. War with Venezuela isn’t a good idea. Getting rid of Maduro is in the USA’s interest and because he is a violent totalitarian, he qualifies as a war criminal and either should have been executed or put before a military tribunal. I think a Biden or Obama judge or even our Supreme Court 7-2 or 6-3 will ultimately let Maduro go, though happily it may take awhile.
