From David Roberts (on Facebook):
Strange how when World War Two was taking shape and the ideological battle lines were being drawn, the old left of that day saw fascism as merely the capitalist system’s last gasp, convinced that once they were defeated, pure communism would come to reign supreme in a brave new world.
In 1944 Friedrich Hayek, the eminent Austrian economist who had fled Hitler’s wrath and was teaching at the London School of Economics in Britain, wrote his insightful little book, The Road to Serfdom. In it, he asserted that sooner or later, any communist system must degenerate into some form of fascism or die.
Today we are treated to the farcical theater of ‘rich’ communists still hating the system that makes their life possible.
