The government has no right — not morally, and not legally (in a truly free country) — to take money from an individual in Arkansas and give that stolen money to an individual in Maine.
Similarly, the government has no right to take money from an individual in Arkansas or Maine, and give it to an individual (or petty dictator) in the Ukraine or Iran.
America does not have rights. Individuals in America have rights, under their now (for all practical purposes) defunct Constitution and Bill of Rights.
We’ve lost sight of the basics. We fight over nationalism versus socialism. There’s only one “ism” that matters: individualism. And there’s only one legal system with any moral legitimacy: a system of individual rights, including the implementation of private property rights. My money belongs to me; and your money belongs to you. It doesn’t matter what kind of pull or sob stories or anything else anybody offers — rights are rights. And that’s that.
It’s the only principle worth fighting for.
