Free Speech is “Selfish” — Says the Ball Player

NBA star LeBron James: “We all talk about this freedom of speech, yes, we all do have freedom of speech but at times there are ramifications for the negative that can happen when you’re not thinking about others and you’re only thinking about yourself.”

Ah, yes. THE central argument of any dictator: that it’s “selfish” and therefore evil to assert your individual rights. Dictators in sick families say this to their victims, just like dictators in governments — Nazis, Communists and today’s militant leftist fascists in America. I doubt this basketball player grasps any of this. Why is he, as a basketball star, being asked for his views on the rights of man?

Self-preservation is not a sin. Not when you respect the equal right of others to enjoy sovereignty over their own lives. Your mind and mouth belong to YOU, not to the Chinese government; not to the career politicians; not even to the NBA.

The moment we forget this, we lose our capacity to be free.
