President Trump gets accused of spying on Democrats. NO evidence emerges, even when “investigated” by contributors to Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Evidence DOES emerge of Obama’s administration spying on candidate Trump. But what happens? Nothing.
Or President Trump gets accused of using Ukrainian foreign aid to go after former Vice President Joe Biden. (Why are we giving the Ukraine foreign aid in the first place?) NO evidence emerges for the accusation. Evidence DOES emerge of Vice President Joe Biden actually doing what Trump was accused of. Evidence also emerges of Joe Biden’s son Hunter gaining financially and improperly from his father’s position. If Donald Trump Jr. were found to do the same, it would all be over. We’d probably be under a state of martial law.
How do people justify such brazenly obvious double standards? Not just in politics — but anywhere.
Consider the man who cheats on his wife. This same man will be outraged to the hilt if he even SUSPECTS his wife of doing the same. His fragile ego will be shattered. How can he justify the double standard?
The most common explanation for double standards: a false sense of moral superiority.
Democrats decided long ago they’re morally superior to Republicans. They take money from people who earned it and give it to people who didn’t earn it. They rationalize it as “generosity”. And “compassion”. Why don’t they start a charity? Because charity does not give them power; forced wealth redistribution does. It’s the greatest and most expensive, prolonged power grab in all of human history. Yet it makes them feel like they’re GOOD people. Anyone who opposes them, they likewise feel, are BAD people.
When you see yourself as morally good, and your opponent or adversary as morally bad, then you can rationalize almost anything you do, and righteously condemn almost anything your opponent does. It’s how emotions work under the pre-programming of rationalization.
I have heard stories of people who steal from their bosses, or from their place of business. “My boss makes enough money” is how the rationalization goes. But how does this justify stealing? If the person stealing from her job gets her car stolen tomorrow, she will contact the police and feel morally outraged. It’s because SHE does not have enough money, she feels. Her boss, the business owner, somehow does. She feels morally superior, both to the thief who steals her car AND to the boss who provides her the job and a means for making a living (and who probably has way less money than she thinks).
Morality is important. Right and wrong, rationally defined, truly matter. Character counts. But moral righteousness fueled by rationalization is the worst thing imaginable. It leads perhaps previously decent people to do all kinds of terrible things. Even monstrous things. You read about people who tolerated or even voted for Nazi (national socialist) Germany, and later regretted it. How could they go along with such a thing? You better believe: false moral righteousness fueled by rationalization.
I am very worried about our country, for the very same reason I’d be concerned about a deeply mentally disturbed individual. I watched President Trump’s rally in Louisiana the other night. Every word President Trump says about Democrats is true. That’s what I find so disturbing — that he’s so right! Leftists are fueled by a sense of moral superiority that leads them to feel they can say or do ANYTHING they wish. They fabricate stories and make up total lies about people they disagree with, because (in their minds) all means are justified.
Think about it. In one of the two major parties of a powerful and significant republic, such an attitude is dangerous and unsustainable. Some people (even a few who voted for him) say President Trump is “crazy”. But when you consider that every word coming out of his mouth about the leftists who dominate our culture and government is true, you come to understand where the real craziness is.
It’s not insanity so much as evil. Because when you feel morally superior and therefore entitled and empowered to do anything you wish, then you are not just above the law — you are above reality. You can make up facts to suit your fancies. It’s literally what is happening with impeachment. Democrats are basically saying: “We don’t care what’s true. When it’s not our guy or gal in power, we will destroy the person there by any means necessary”.
In California, where Democrats face no opposition, they’re confiscating guns and preparing to go even further. They already lock people up for drinking sodas with plastic straws or using a gender pronoun in the presence of someone who feels (s)he is above gender. Taxes and environmental regulations know no limit. The middle class is fleeing California. Look at San Francisco. A once vibrant and great city, only the ultra-rich and homeless psychopaths leaving excrement on the sidewalks remain. This is what the death of a middle class looks like. New York City is going in a similar direction. Leftist havens will eventually become pits, like Venezuela, should the government persist at driving the middle class out of existence.
In California, New York and other one-party states, we see the actions of people who love power over others for its own sake.
It’s madness, but it’s also evil.
We have to fight back. That’s what we’re doing. That’s what President Trump is doing relentlessly. What else can we do?
