When looking for honesty in a person, look for self-awareness first.
Because without self-awareness, there will be no honesty.
Honesty implies objectivity and truth. Self-awareness is a willingness to be objective and truthful with oneself — about oneself.
Nobody is infallible. But you are safe with a self-aware and objective person. It’s not that he will never err. But he never will say one thing, do another — and then, when confronted with it, deny that it’s happening.
It’s hard to know on a first meeting if someone is self-aware. But in time, you’ll know. Don’t ignore what you find out.
