“James Comey used Gmail for FBI business when director despite warning employees against it”, says a headline. Here we go again.
Why should it matter that a Secretary of State or an FBI director use personal email and phone systems for government communication?
For one thing, there are laws against it. There are laws against it for a reason. The reason is national security.
When a high-level government official complacently denies national security, even when the law requires it, it shows a profound lack of respect for the people of the country.
It would be kind of like a police officer hitting a pedestrian and then running away. That’s what Comey and Hillary Clinton did by blatantly and unapologetically breaking the laws they were sworn to uphold.
Hillary Clinton and James Comey are such hypocrites. They openly detest Donald Trump – and, by extension, the millions who voted for him – because, in their minds, Trump does not represent the best of the people.
Their premise is that they care about the people of the country. Yet they show no respect for those same people when it comes to honoring laws and policies designed to protect those very same citizens they claim to love.
Clearly, they don’t care about the people. They care about their power.
Arrogance and complacency are what sank the Titanic. The difference is that the Titanic could and did sink. High-level corrupt officials like James Comey and Hillary Clinton, whom the evidence shows did far worse things than using personal devices for government communication, have yet to sink.
They bear absolutely no burden of responsibility for their actions in a media overtly biased in their favor. And they have yet to face the legal consequences for their actions, and there’s good reason to believe they never will.
In the end, I blame the people of the country for its moral collapse. We’re still a democratic nation and still mostly free. Maybe not the majority are to blame, but certainly a plurality. Particularly the people on the Democratic left who express no concern for laws broken by their henchpersons, Comey and Clinton. They’re basically telling these corrupt people, “Hey, so long as you support me on the issues, you can do whatever the hell you want.”
They know it, and it’s why they’re so smug. It’s like a pact among criminals.
Even the President seems unable to hold these miscreants accountable. As he wrote in a Tweet just yesterday, “Wow, what a tough sentence for Paul Manafort [a Trump supporter arrested for unclear reasons], who has represented Ronald Reagan, Bob Dole and many other top political people and campaigns. Didn’t know Manafort was the head of the Mob. What about Comey and Crooked Hillary and all of the others? Very unfair!”
You can hear his frustration. But he’s the President! And the nation’s chief Attorney, the U.S. Attorney General, works for him.
The ends justify the means. That’s what American government has come to, at least according to the Democratic left who still control most of the media, most of academia, much of the federal bureaucracy and the agenda for most of Congress. You can be like the Titanic, but not suffer the consequences.
But only for a time.
Because so long as we let law-breaking and overtly dishonest, immoral people get away with murder (perhaps literally) on government time, we’re hastening the day when all credibility for our government collapses. It won’t be pretty when it happens. And it probably won’t happen all at once. But we’re in the process of watching it happen now, and even with President Donald Trump in office, there doesn’t yet appear to be a way to stop it.
In the end, we will all pay for allowing this arrogance, corruption and duplicity to go on. That includes the crooks like Comey and Hillary Clinton who have, to date, walked away free from any/all culpability for their actions. But when the ship of our corrupt government eventually goes down, if it does, they will be lost with it. I suppose that’s a silver lining.
To those of us who still have standards, we have to speak out and fight for the right things. Because the right ideas and principles will win in the end, but ONLY if we firmly and courageously stand by them.
