Mueller Fiasco: Has Justice in America Become Politicized?

A majority of voters think that FBI Special Counsel Robert Mueller has a conflict of interest due to his ties to fired FBI Director James Comey, according to a poll released Friday.

The Harvard CAPS-Harris poll, first reported by the Hill, asked voters if Mueller has a conflict of interest “as the former head of the FBI and a friend of [Comey].” Fifty-four percent said that the relationship does indeed indicate such a conflict, with 70 percent of Republicans, 53 percent of independents, and 40 percent of Democrats thinking it does.

A majority of Americans, even when faced with a badly biased, stridently anti-Trump, anti-Republican and pro-Democrat media culture, can sense the obvious truth: Justice in America has become politicized.

It’s a bad and dangerous situation. For all our problems before the Obama years, including Watergate and many issues since, there never was serious cause to question the objectivity of the FBI and the Department of Justice. Obviously these agencies were never infallible, and at some points they were more fallible than others. But under Obama’s watch, the Justice Department, including the FBI, became like the system of pseudo-justice found in dictatorial countries, openly going after political enemies and openly leaving partisan friends alone. And now, despite the election of President Trump who supposedly heads the Justice Department, we’re seeing just how far that politicization has gone.

The politicization of justice means that something other than facts, reasoning and due process become the central purpose of justice. It means that political correctness, as defined by the reigning establishment’s unchecked whims, becomes the primary concern in applying the law. In practice, it means that people charged with upholding justice actually become concerned with their own power above all else. While I don’t assume that’s true of the many good individuals who still hopefully work in the FBI and federal Department of Justice, it’s a serious problem because, as the old saying goes, “the fish rots from the head down.” And the head of the fish now stinks to high heavens, as we’re seeing. This investigation clearly cares nothing for “justice” and is solely concerned with bringing down a President.

I find myself wondering how President Trump, who’s a highly smart man despite his political inexperience, could have appointed such a blatantly political person like Robert Mueller to head this investigation of a “scandal” that — according to the findings of this actual investigation — had no evidence to back it up from the get-go. But then I also find myself wondering, in the next thought, “Who could Trump have hired? Who in Washington DC, in either party, isn’t politically biased and corrupt?” Mueller supposedly had the respect of both parties, but did we forget: The corruption in both parties is the whole reason Donald Trump got elected President!

It just goes to show how when you’re dealing with evil, dishonesty and injustice, you can’t make any compromises — not even a little one. The entire “Russia” scandal is based on nothing more than a desperate attempt to discredit Donald Trump and drive him from office. Mueller’s appointment was an attempt to appease evil and dishonest people, but there’s no appeasing them. That’s the real scandal here, and if it works — to reverse the outcome of an election — then the legacy will be far worse for this country than anything Donald Trump’s fiercest detractors claim.

Once justice is politicized, there will be no more justice. That’s the real crisis facing America with this whole mess.
