Britain’s Theresa May: She’s No Iron Lady

The Prime Minister has said the “Islamist” attack on Parliament was not “Islamic” and Islam is a “great faith”.

And yet virtually every terrorist act occurs in the name of this “great faith.” And if the faith is so great, why don’t its defenders come out to denounce those who slaughter in its name, again and again? Where are they? The only people I ever hear defending Islam are non-Muslims.

Taking on the role of a theologian, Theresa May insisted: “It is wrong to describe this as Islamic terrorism. It is Islamist terrorism. It is a perversion of a great faith.”

What they do is a perversion of rationality and civility. But they would argue that it’s not a perversion of their faith. Faith does not mean acting on facts, logic or reason. Faith means acting on the content of one’s mind — and one’s mind alone, without any reference to objective reality. From the point-of-view of Muslims who murder those who do not believe in their faith, they are doing what their religion tells them to do. They will cite passages in their holy book, the Koran, ordering them to slaughter non-believers. They would argue that the “moderate Muslims” — wherever they are, as we almost never hear from them — are the ones perverting the faith. If you accept their terms of faith over reason, they’re not wrong.

Speaking in Parliament, she also said the attack showed “the importance of all of our faiths working together, and recognising the values that we share”.

Adding: “This act of terror was not an act of faith. It was a perversion; a warped ideology, which leads to an act of terrorism like that and it will not prevail.”

These are the words of a frightened woman, speaking as the leader of a frightened people. She wants to believe that if we keep telling Muslims, “We love your faith. Your faith is the greatest thing that ever happened to mankind,” we will appease them and the terrorism will stop. Of course, observation proves just the opposite. The more we keep insisting that Islam is not the problem, the more widespread and vicious the attacks by Muslims in the name of their religion become. We keep focusing on the fact that not all Muslims kill; yet all the killing is done in their name.

Ask the survivor of any abusive marriage or family. You don’t appease abusers into benevolence. That’s not how their minds work. In fact, when you tell abusers that you know deep down they’re really decent, and that all they need is love, they see this as weakness. They see you as a fool. It makes them respect you less and want to throttle you more. And it’s exactly what’s happening in the Western world, particularly in Europe, which is in the process of falling apart because of Islamic-inspired terrorism.

How many attacks will it take before even Britain’s Conservative Party — the party once headed by Churchill and Thatcher — will get this? I fear they’re already lost. The green light is lit, and terrorists know they may proceed full steam ahead. That’s precisely why they hit at the core of civilization, the iconic buildings of Great Britain’s Parliament. They know what they’re after, even if hapless fools like Theresa May would rather not know.
