Starbucks Acts Like an Immature Teenager

The Starbucks Coffee brand has taken a major hit since the company’s announcement that it would hire 10,000 Muslim “refugees” in response to President Donald Trump’s temporary travel moratorium in January.

Starbucks was one of those early to criticize President Trump for putting a temporary hold on immigration from a list of seven terror-torn countries flagged by the Obama administration. In response, the coffee house giant pledged to hire 10,000 Muslim refugees over five years in protest against Trump’s order.

…Not long after Starbucks issued its anti-Trump refugee statement, many Americans began to wonder why Starbucks is slighting the hiring of Americans — especially U.S. military veterans — in favor of refugees.

Ultimately, on the heels of its refugees announcement, the company felt enough pressure to issue a second statement to explain to America’s military veterans that the company doesn’t actually hate them.

Why do companies like Starbucks do these things?

Like a troubled adolescent, they’re trying to show: “I can do what I want. I don’t have to do what you tell me.” OK, then. But why would you want to go out of your way to hire refugees who come from countries that produce terrorism?

What if a major company went out of its way to do the opposite? What if a company like Starbucks went out of its way to resist, say, President Hillary Clinton by hiring veterans and refusing to hire refugees from countries who produce the most terrorists? Would it be their right as well? Not for a minute. The lawsuits, Hollywood outrage and the initiation of action against “hateful discrimination” by the Hillary Clinton Justice Department would have been swift and decisive.

Starbucks has every right to hire whomever it pleases. As good Democrats, they would never permit the same to companies who hire or fire whom they please, not when other companies fire the people Democrat leftists like. Hypocrisy is an ugly thing, but it’s also a revealing one. Hypocrisy reveals logical inconsistency and inner contradiction. It means you’re not prepared to stand up for the ideas you claim to uphold. In this case, the idea of Starbucks is more of an attitude: “Look at me, fellow leftists. Look at what a social justice warrior I am! I’m ONLY going to hire Muslims! [insert applause and approval here].” That’s the teenager mentality (at its worst) you see exhibited in most if not all leftist attitudes. It’s preening for the peer group because their ideas will never stand up to facts, logic, objectivity and reality.

If Starbucks wants to promote justice, it should stand up for things like private property rights, capitalism, and the inalienable right of people to be sovereign over their lives and property. Those are the values and principles that allowed Starbucks to rise to the status it has. We never would have had anything like Starbucks in a Communist country or the tyrannical wastelands refugees flee, because these countries all stifle individual rights, private property, profit and innovation. Starbucks does not have to love Donald Trump. But why do leftist companies like them so loathe America, when it’s American values that made them great?

Starbucks drives away potentially half of its customer base by stamping its foot and shouting, “We’ll hire who we want. We don’t care if they’re illegal aliens coming from countries who do the most damage to our own, including to the honest immigrants who make their way here. We just want to show we’re socially justice minded.”

That’s all any of this is: A bunch of overgrown adolescents who think they’re standing up for principle. All they’re doing, in practice, is bulldozing over the principles that made their success possible.
