FBI Director James Comey went against Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s advice on Friday when he sent a letter to Congress announcing that he is reopening the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server after new evidence was discovered, according to the New Yorker.
“Coming less than two weeks before the Presidential election, Comey’s decision to make public new evidence that may raise additional legal questions about Clinton was contrary to the views of the Attorney General, according to a well-informed Administration official,” the New Yorker reports on Saturday.
I’ll bet it was!
How could a man corrupt enough to let Hillary Clinton off the hook – despite evidence of criminal wrongdoing on her part that he himself cited – now suddenly see the light and decide to hold her accountable?
It makes no sense, psychologically or legally.
Bryan L. Berson, a Cornell University graduate and attorney in New York told me, “Even though the FBI reopened its investigation, without a special prosecutor, the Justice Department won’t seek indictment.”
If so, what’s the deal? What does Comey have to gain by doing this now? If objective justice motivated him, he wouldn’t have rationalized away an indictment for Hillary Clinton before. If expediency motivates him, like virtually everyone else in our corrupt Imperial City, then it makes a lot more sense.
Psychologically, probably the best explanation is that he’s covering himself. Perhaps Comey fears Donald Trump will win after all, and he wants to escape retribution when President Trump (hopefully) goes after Hillary Clinton, not because she’s a political enemy, but because she brazenly broke the law and got away with it.
The less surprising part is that Attorney General Loretta Lynch is against Comey’s action. Remember that Loretta Lynch is Comey’s boss. Lynch, after all, met with former President Bill Clinton last summer under the pretense of discussing “grandchildren.” Soon after, Hillary Clinton was cleared of all wrongdoing. Soon after that, Hillary Clinton announced she would probably make Lynch her own Attorney General.
Are we living in the television series, House of Cards?
No, it’s much worse than that. On that series, the underhanded and scheming President and First Lady do things the old fashioned way: in secret, with an element of shame. Not so with the Clintons. And not so with Attorney General Loretta Lynch. These are the most ruthless types of sociopaths: the kind who feel no shame or discomfort with what they’re doing. They’re far from original. Sadly, human history is littered with such types. But in the history of America, while we’ve seen some scoundrels, we’ve never seen such authentic villains before. And, as if we didn’t already have enough problems, these villains may securely have their grip on power in a mere few weeks. Assuming somebody does not stop them.
Yes, Donald Trump will slow them down if he wins. He will inject chaos and instability into the power structure that has become our almost unimaginably corrupt federal justice system. But in the end, only the American people can save themselves from themselves, while we still have the First and Second Amendments, the last elements of our freedom standing.
And if a majority elevate Hillary Clinton into the presidency despite all that we already know, then it shows you just how asleep at the wheel the great majority of the population now is. And there’s no recovering from a blow, very likely a fatal blow, to our once superior democratic republic. It’s not just that Hillary Clinton will do a lot of bad things. It will be that she was given a green light of permission to do so, by being elected. It will be America’s darkest hour to date, with a lot more coming under her rule.
