Obama’s “Prosecutorial Discretion” = Soft Dictatorship

President Barack Obama says he has the power to allow illegal immigrants to be eligible for federal benefits through the guise of “prosecutorial discretion,” and that he will not enforce the law against them for being in the country, CNS News Editor-in-Chief Terence Jeffrey says in an editorial.

Solicitor General Donald Verrilli plans to use that argument before the Supreme Court, where he will argue that Obama “can make millions of people in this country illegally eligible for Social Security, disability and Medicare,” Jeffrey writes in the Wednesday piece.

Basically, Obama is imposing world socialism on the United States. His premise? Not only are American citizens eligible for freebies and benefits forcibly paid for by others. Non-Americans are as well. How does he get around it? By simply declaring non-Americans legal citizens via “prosecutorial discretion.”

“Prosecutorial discretion” is code for: “I’ll do what I want, and to hell with the law.”

Immigration is not the problem, not in a free country. But immigration is a problem when immigrants are simply declared citizens—and therefore eligible for benefits—by the executive whim of a soft (and increasingly hard) dictator. Rest assured that the front runner to replace Obama in the White House, Hillary Clinton, stands ready to extend the soft dictatorship further.

The welfare state has ruined immigration and ruined America. Twenty years ago, you would have been accused of exaggeration if you claimed that the welfare state would one day be extended to the entire planet. Now Obama does it routinely, with nary a whimper to stand in his way.

The surest way to ensure electoral victories in the future for Democratic candidates is to hook as many people on government benefits—public schools, government health insurance, free aid to families, etc.—as possible. That’s precisely what Obama is doing. It’s cynical, and yet also consistent with the ideology of his party, that man is his brother’s keeper. If you consider sacrifice of the individual to the state, group or collective as “idealism,” then Obama is giving you exactly what you crave.

Questioning or criticizing Obama’s actions on extending welfare benefits to everyone will get you called racist. “Why shouldn’t everyone have benefits?” You’ll be asked. “If we are all each others’ brothers and keepers within the United States, then why aren’t we responsible for people outside of the United States?”

The only rational answer is one you will not hear any candidate, including Donald Trump or Ted Cruz, provide: “Because we are not each others’ keepers. We are sovereign over our own lives. We’re not responsible for everyone else, whether that person lives down the street or 5,000 miles away.”

Your life either belongs to yourself, or it doesn’t. If it does, then the government has no right to force you to economically support anyone. That’s the only argument that can logically defeat the welfare statists. Nobody will make it: Not socialists, and not Christian fundamentalists who dominate the conservative wing of the Republican party.

More than any other single action of those who advocate Obama’s infinite welfare state, this may prove to be the single most ruinous.  In one or several fell swoops, Obama manages to hook millions more on the welfare state by simply declaring them American citizens. Rest assured that even Republicans who initially oppose such steps will not ever permit reversals on these decisions.

Giving freebies as an entitled right, without even having to earn citizenship, is the most blatant and destructive kind of power grab any president could make. It’s more tragic proof that no matter what happens in the forthcoming election, we’re already living in the post-America America.
