Does Talking It Out Help?

Most people troubled over something feel at least a little better after talking about it. The two exceptions are: people with obsessive depression or obsessive anxiety. Obsessive people get worse when they think or talk about something, while everyone else seems to improve. It makes sense, because dwelling on what you cannot control only makes it worse, and that’s what obsessive people do. (Obsessive people also tend to be the most accomplished, although in spite of their obsessiveness, not really because of it).  Also, it’s the WAY you think about something that makes it worse. While you can choose to think in a more rational way, if it’s based on flawed premises, talking can only make it worse.
