Give Me Your I!

“People who trust in themselves and in their own merits are, as it were, blinded by their own ‘I,’ and their hearts harden in sin.”

–Pope Benedict XVI

My reply: It takes an “I” to cure cancer, to engage in drug abuse … and everything in between. To denigrate the “I” and call it sin is the philosophical and intellectual equivalent of committing suicide. By negating the “I,” you have taken away your capacity to either abuse your mind or develop its potential. If you can’t trust your mind, then how is your mind to know whom to obey and believe, and whom to reject? I’m sure the Pope has an answer: “Just obey me.”

No thanks.
