You may have heard the cynical phrase, "Those who can, do--and those who cannot, teach." I never bought that. I understand some of the sentiment behind the statement, but I can't denigrate teaching if it's done properly (as it rarely is). I can't pretend that doing is more important than thinking when both are crucial, and thinking is foundational. So here's my revision of the statement in more rational terms: "Those who will, think. Those who think, do. Those who truly teach show others how to think."
